Exhibitions to see !
If there is an exhibition on printmaking to see this month, it is the exhibition presented in Paris by the Foundation Custodia and entitled ‘D’ABORD REGARDER’ CHARLES DONKER, from December 3, 2021 to April 3, 2022.
The Foundation Custodia presents the work of the artist Charles Donker (born in 1940 in Utrecht, Netherlands). His technique and refinement rank him among the greatest contemporary Dutch graphic artists. The Foundation Custodia has an important selection of his etched work, including trial proofs and prints retouched by the artist himself. More than 150 works are on view. Most of them are etchings. The exhibition also reveals, for the first time, about twenty drawings and fifteen watercolors. All the works on display retrace the fifty-year career of the artist. A must see.
The icing on the cake, print lovers who will see the subtle work of Charles Donker can also see the beautiful exhibition ‘Sur le motif, peindre en plein air – 1780-1870′ on the first floor of the Foundation. This exhibition is open until April 3, 2022. It brings together more than 150 oil studies by well-known and lesser-known artists from the Foundation Custodia, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and a private collection. On display are landscapes of trees, water, rocks, shores, views of Rome, the Roman countryside, volcanoes and the Bay of Naples, skies and effects, roofs, windows, courtyards and ruins, wonderful colors and tones, in short, a real pleasure for the eyes and for the morale, we really need it….
