Anonymous engraving sometimes attributed to Claes Jansz VISSCHER (1587-1652).

Interpretive engraving of the Dutch school, possibly from the 16th century, after Maarten van HEEMSKERCK (1498-1574) from the series ‘Acts of the Apostles’. It is an illustration of a passage from the Acts of the Apostles, 2.41: “Those who accepted his word were baptized (…)”. Date of production of the drawing: 1575. Mention of ‘Martinus Heemskerck Inventor’ in the print and of the number ‘5’ (a number whose typography is ‘flattened’ and which would resemble the number 3). Proof on laid paper published by Philip Galle in Antwerp. Copper cut engraving.

Maarten van Heemskerck (Heemskerk, 1498 – Haarlem, 1574) was one of the major portrait and history painters of the Netherlands. He is famous for his series of the Seven Wonders of the World.
