Proof on laid paper. 2nd state out of 2. In the margin, under the square line on the left, we read: “M. Martin fils inv. and sculptor and in the middle, escape of the army of the Empire after the Surprise and Camisade of Cremona most remarkable action. Then below: At Martin le Jeune Peintre ordinaire et Pensionnaire du Roy en l’Hotel Royal des Goblins”.

Mr. Martin (little is known about this 18th century engraver) is the son of Jean-Baptiste Martin (1659-1735) who was successively a student of Laurent de la Hire and Van der Meulen.
