He was a student of Victor Vibert and Danquin at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1869 and became a member of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1883. He received a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. In 1891 he received an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes Français. A prolific painter, he created large-scale works, often for official commissions, such as his paintings decorating the Rhône Prefecture in Lyon. One of his major works, “Entrée du Pont de la Guillotière”, dating from 1879, can be admired at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. A watercolorist and orientalist, he also traveled to the Middle East where he produced exotic paintings in bright colors.
